Creating Standalone Desktops
To set up a Standalone Desktop, follow these steps:
- Select 'Standalones' from the top navigation menu
- Choose 'Create New Standalone' Desktop
- A dialogue box will appear, as shown below

Here’s an overview of what each field means:

GPU Model
Pick your preferred GPU and type, if needed. By ticking the 'Display GPU enabled servers' box, you’ll only see servers that have GPUs available -
Datacentre / Server
Select the datacentre region and server nearest to where you’re located in Canada -
OS to clone from
You have several operating systems to choose from.

When a template is marked 'Copy Required', it means the template exists but must be copied to that Server before you can use it. Typically, only Windows OS might involve extra charges. -
Include Custom, RC, and Old Versions
DaDesktop refreshes OS templates regularly, though if you run into snags with the newest one, you can give an older version a go

Memory
This sets a limit on how much memory the desktops can use. Keep in mind that, by default, you’re bound by the server’s resources. Each server may have different memory caps. Should you need to bump these limits up, reach out to us via Support Chat. -
Label
If you like, add an Alias to give your standalone a simpler, friendlier name.
OS Template to Clone from
You have several options when it comes to picking and creating the Operating System Template you’ll use.
Choices include Windows, or a range of Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian, Almalinux, and others.
You can go with a pre-built template, typically labelled with a version number like VXX (e.g., V51).
As an alternative, we now give you the option to build fully current Linux templates. The 'Build New' Linux templates rely on a completely different build process, where the Linux sources are paired with a script that layers in the key DaDesktop customisations. This keeps the template fully up to date, secure, and simpler to roll out and maintain.
Building OS Template
Once you’ve picked the template you need, a pop-up like the one below will appear.
Hit 'Start Building'
Your standalone will then be built. Do note that the build process might take a bit longer than 30 seconds, and if it seems like things have stalled, just hang tight for a little while longer.
Built template now available
With the template built, you can tweak any settings as needed, then click 'Save and Create Desktop'.
Your Standalone is now being created—this usually takes just a few moments, far less time than building the template.
Your new Standalone is ready to go. In the example below, it’s named 'julian-6iqm', but you could have assigned a label with a more descriptive name if you had preferred.
Click 'Connect' to fire up and link into the Standalone machine.
